At Brookhaven School, our Art and Design curriculum aims to provide all learners with meaningful opportunities to explore, create and communicate through a wide range of artistic experiences.
We believe that art is a powerful tool for self-expression, creativity, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, students progressively develop their knowledge, understanding and practical artistic skills from Year 7 onwards. Learners build confidence in using a variety of materials, processes and techniques while studying artists, cultures and creative disciplines. They are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks, solve problems and reflect on their own artistic journey.
A clear route into Key Stage 4
The curriculum is designed to ensure strong progression across all pathways and provides a clear route into accredited study during Key Stage 4. Students who choose Art and Design as an option in their final two years are equipped with the knowledge, skills and creative independence needed to successfully access and achieve recognised qualifications, including GCSE Art and Design and Entry Level qualifications, where appropriate.
Art for every learner
Our curriculum is adapted to meet the needs of students ensuring that every learner can access, enjoy and succeed in the arts. Through creative experiences, students develop confidence, communication, resilience, independence and pride in their achievements, preparing them for further education, employment and participation in their communities.
